Betty Rakestraw

Bowdoin, Maine-Betty Jane Heberer Rakestraw age 86 of Meadow Road and formerly of Havana Illinois passed away to her heavenly home on Friday, October 29, 2010 at the D'Youville Pavilion Nursing Home in Lewistown, Maine with her loving husband John and family at her bedside.

Betty was born in Peoria, Illinois, June 21, 1924 the daughter of the late Earl and Alice Welch Heberer Sayers.

On July 19, 1948 she married the love of her life John Rakestraw in Peoria, Illinois. Betty was a devoted homemaker taking care of her children, husband and her home. Betty took great pride in her home and strived to make her home a happy household. A hard worker, Betty worked side by side with her husband building their home together. Betty loved working in her flower garden and crocheting blankets. One of Betty's greatest joys coming from her heart was to bless people through her card ministry.

Before moving to Maine in 2005 she attended the Church of the Nazarene in Havana, Illinois. Betty was a devoted Christian with the love of the Lord in her heart. Betty loved her husband, children and grandchildren. She was a loving wife, mother and grandmother and will be deeply missed.

Surviving besides her husband John is a son Charles Rakestraw and his wife Peggy of Anniston, Alabama. Three daughters Alice Byers of Pekin, Illinois, Shirlene Vorgert and her husband Don of Spottswood, Virginia and Diana Bisson and her husband Art of Topsham, Maine.

A sister Shirley Harper of Peoria, Illinois. Four brothers Richard Heberer and his wife Jean, Lloyd Heberer, Jerry Heberer and his wife Katherine and sister in-law Willie Heberer all of Pekin, Illinois and Harold Heberer and his wife Pat of Lewistown, Illinois.

Ten grandchildren Vincent, Tim and Tom Byers, Maria Cupi, Tina Burd, John Rakestraw II, Scott and Mark Vorgert, David Bisson, Melissa Estela. Also survived by twenty four great grandchildren, five great great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents she was predeceased by her stepfather Clarence Sayers, brother Earl Heberer Jr. a granddaughter, brother in-law Earl Harper and sister in-law Janet Heberer.

A visiting hour will be held Wednesday November 3rd from 1-2PM at Stetson's Funeral Home 12 Federal St. Brunswick, Maine 04011. A funeral service will follow at 2PM at the funeral home. Interment will be in West Bowdoin Cemetery Bowdoin, Maine.

A memorial service will be announced in Havana, Illinois at a later date.
