PORTLAND - Jeffrey (Jeff) Andrew Sickel, 28 was born on Sept. 29, 1987 to Timothy Sickel and Robin Black at Parkview Memorial Hospital in Brunswick. Jeff died on June 13, 2016 at Central Maine Medical Center due to head trauma sustained from a hit and run accident while riding his motorcycle on Route 196 in Lisbon on the night of June 11th.

Jeff began working at the Cooks Corner McDonalds in Brunswick at the age of 14 and became a shift manager by the age of 17. This early experience at McDonalds empowered Jeff and informed a personal philosophy of individual responsibility that he embraced and expressed politically in his 20's. Jeff graduated from USM with a degree in Accounting and worked as an Accountant for several years at Purdy Powers and Auto Europe before recently going into business with his older brother.

Jeff was a standout baseball player as a catcher for Brunswick High School where opposing teams feared stealing bases and taking leads due to his aggressive and effective catching style. He will be remembered fondly as the type of man who would steal home plate, do a back flip into the Swift River at Coos Canyon, and maintain a one foot nose manual for upwards of 5 minutes straight at the Brunswick Skate Park. Jeff had the rare ability to be both opinionated and easy going at the same time. He was the light in every room he entered and his smile was contagious. His kind heart, loving spirit, and outgoing nature made him a beloved son, brother, and friend. His light will forever shine in everyone that he encountered and the gift of his body that he made at the end of his life will help many recipients live fuller, longer lives even though his was cut so tragically short.

Jeff is survived by his father, Timothy Sickel, and his partner, Mary Jo Foley, of Litchfield; his mother, Robin Black, of Brunswick; his eldest brother, Robert Sickel and Robert's wife Erica, and their son, and Jeff's nephew, Robert Jr., of Tarrytown, New York; his sister, Althea Sickel, of Brunswick, Maine; his younger brother, Carl Sickel, also of Brunswick, Maine; his Aunt Ruthy, of Bangor Maine; and his Uncle Walter and Aunt Janice, of Tucson, Arizona.

Jeff was probably the best looking Sickel and undoubtedly had the best head of hair of the males of the tribe; his genes will be missed.

A public viewing will be held at Stetsons Funeral Home, 12 Federal Street in Brunswick from 2-6 PM on Saturday, June 18th. A public funeral service will be held at the Harriet Beecher Stowe Elementary School   44 McKeen St. Brunswick at 1PM Sunday, June 19th. The family wishes that others consider organ donation as an option in the unlikely event that similar circumstances befall them or their families and that all who read this consider their actions when they step behind the wheel, especially when motorcyclists are in their vicinity.

In lieu of flowers, the family will accept small donations towards the viewing, funeral and burial expenses. Donations can be made in person or by mail to Atlantic Regional Credit Union for the "Jeffrey Sickel Memorial Fund” or can be collected via check or cash to Jeffrey’s immediate family for that account.

Rest in peace, Jeff. We will never forget you.Memorial condolences may be expressed at stetsonsfuneralhome.com
