Brunswick-Florence P. Bachand, 90, of Maurice Drive, passed away Friday, June 24, 2016 at Horizons Living and Rehab Center. She was born May 28, 1926, the daughter of Josephel and Clarisse Landry Bouthot in Fort Kent, Maine.

Florence attended school in Ft. Kent and when the family moved to Brunswick in 1942 began working at Verney Mill and other jobs until she opened her own beauty shop in her parent’s house on Park Row.

She married Raymond Bachand on January 29, 1953 after meeting him as a boarder in her parent’s home.

She later opened her beauty shop on McKeen Street where she and Ray lived happily for the rest of their lives together until his passing, on December 1, 2010.

Florence enjoyed taking her mother to bingo for many years, playing cards with Ray and their family and friends, and enjoying the many visits from all of their relatives.  Because of Ray’s love of gardening, Flo was often canning and preserving the fruits and vegetables from their garden. As a Daughters of Isabella member, she volunteered many years for the Knights of Columbus bingo and was well known for her delicious desserts. She was an avid knitter and donated many of her items to people in need. Florence was a communicant of All Saints Parish at St. John’s Church.

She is survived by a sister, Theresa Lachance of Gardner, MA, and many nieces and nephews. Florence was predeceased by her husband, parents, 3 brothers and 8 sisters.

Visiting hours will be Sunday July 10 from 5-7PM at Stetson’s Funeral Home, 12 Federal St., Brunswick, where a funeral service will be held Monday, July 11 at 10AM with the Rev. Thomas Murphy officiating.  Burial will follow in St. John’s Cemetery, Brunswick.  A reception will follow the burial at the Stetson’s Funeral Home Family Reception Center.

Memorial donations may be made to a charity of one’s choice.
