Brunswick- Mary E. Lyden, age 96 of Jordan Avenue, died
Thursday, July 28 at Mid Coast Hospital.
She was born June 1, 1920 in Brewer, the daughter of Joseph and Mary
Candellari Kelley.
She attended St. Mary’s Parochial School in Bangor and was a
1938 graduate of John Baptiste High School, also in Bangor. Mary was educated as a Registered Nurse at
Queen’s Hospital (now Mercy Hospital) in Portland, graduating in1942. On May 4, 1944 she married Daniel F. Lyden
Jr. He passed away on August 9, 1978.
She was a home maker then worked as a nurse for 27 years at
the old Brunswick Hospital and later, Regional Hospital. After retirement, she worked at several area
nursing homes. Mary finally retired at the age of 95.
Mary was a member of St. Charles Borromeo Church-All Saints
Parish where she was a Eucharistic Minister.
She was a member of the Legion of Mary and the Brunswick Area Interfaith
Council. She enjoyed knitting and
cooking.
Mary is survived by 4 daughters, Mary Jo
Mauro and her husband Peter of Auburn, Peggy Boucher of Auburn, Elly J. Lyden
of Topsham, and Cathy Lyden and husband Joseph Siemiatkoski of Waltham, MA. She
is also survived by eight grandchildren and nine great grandchildren.
In addition to her husband she was also predeceased by a
daughter Betty Anne Cagley, a sister Josephine Gutzwa and two brothers John and
Joseph Kelley Jr.
Visiting hours will
be held on Sunday, July 31st from 5-8 PM at Stetson’s Funeral Home,
12 Federal St., Brunswick. A Mass of
Christian Burial will be celebrated on Monday, August 1st at 1PM at St. Charles
Borromeo Church-All Saints Parish, 132 McKeen St., Brunswick. A private burial will be in Mount Pleasant
Cemetery, Bangor. In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made for the new
Parish Multipurpose Center with checks made payable to All Saints Parish 132
McKeen St. Brunswick, Me 04011.
