Brunswick – Geraldine Claire Menard, age 84, of Scarponi Drive died Monday, August 8 at her home after a long battle with Alzheimer’s disease. She was born in Lewiston on August 5, 1932, the daughter of Damian Nadeau and Claire Lavoie. She attended Brunswick schools and was a graduate of Brunswick High School.

On July 4, 1952, she married her high school sweetheart, Wilfrid A. Giroux, Jr. Geraldine worked at the Times Record at the front desk until they started a family. They had five children. He died in 1963. On October 8, 1965, she married David P. Menard. Together they had six more children.

She devoted her life to lovingly caring for her family and graciously welcoming all of their friends. She was known town wide for her home made whoopie pies and baked goods. She was an avid Montreal Canadians hockey fan while the rest of her family rallied for the Boston Bruins. And in the off season, she cheered for the New York Yankees, while the rest of the family supported the Boston Red Sox. She followed the Bowdoin hockey team and attended many games in the old arena. Her philosophy for keeping her eleven children busy and active were three words of wisdom: "Sign em’ up!” She signed them up for programs and sports that kept her running from fields and hockey rinks from morning until night. She must hold the record for numbers of hockey and figure skates tied over the years.

She was a member of St. John’s church in All Saints Parish, Brunswick. Surviving are her brother, Guy Nadeau, of Lewiston, six sons, Bob Giroux and his wife Jan, of Brunswick, Bill Giroux and Patti Sigurdson of Bath, John Giroux and his wife Faith of Corinna, Joe Menard and his wife Tracy of Portland, Matt Menard and his wife Katie of Yarmouth, Jim Menard and his wife Angie of Brooklyn, New York, and five daughters, Claire Redden and her husband John of Brunswick, Louise Rowe and her husband, James of Cocoa, Florida, Diane Burris of Vancouver, WA, Jeanne Ackor and her husband Adam of Rockland, and Lisa Pickford and her husband John of Brunswick, 27 grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.

Visiting hours will be held Thursday, August 11th from 6-8 PM at Stetson’s Funeral Home 12 Federal St. Brunswick. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Friday, August 12th at 11 AM at St. John’s Church- All Saints Parish 39 Pleasant St. Brunswick. Interment will follow in St. John’s Cemetery, Brunswick.

Sincere and heartfelt thanks to the CHANS family and the homecare aides who so lovingly cared for both Geraldine and David over the last few years.
