Beverly R. Bartlett

Brunswick- Beverly Bartlett, age 88, of Parkview Circle died Tuesday, October 18th at Mid Coast Senior Health.  She was born in Freeport, March 20, 1928,  the daughter of Walter and Gladys Miller.

She attended Freeport schools and graduated as Salutatorian from Freeport High in 1946.  As an eighteen year old, she taught at Cranberry Horn School, Cundy’s Harbor.  Her picture appeared on the cover of Collier’s Magazine in the spring of 1947 as Teacher of the Year, with the salutation "Good Morning Miss Miller.”

She attended Farmington State Teacher’s College (’48-’50) and Gorham State Teacher’s College (’56-’57).  She also taught school in Bowdoin, N. Yarmouth, Connecticut, Virginia, Edgecomb and Boothbay.

She was a homemaker and raised a family and supported her husband, while he pursued his education and work.  She managed Lloyd’s Card Shop in Virginia during this time.

She was an outstanding violinist as a young girl.  At age 12, she was the youngest person to be first violinist in the Portland Youth Symphony.  She played the violin at Farmington State as a student.  She belonged to the sorority at FSTC.

She and Richard Bartlett, of Topsham, were married in Orlando, FL on Sept.6, 1959.  They celebrated their 57th anniversary recently.

Surviving family includes her husband Richard of Brunswick, two sons, Marshall and Carol Bartlett of Bowdoinham, Anthony and Kathy Bartlett of Northbridge, MA, six grandchildren, Necia, Christopher, Stephen, Rachel, Dylan and Cameron, three great-grandchildren, Jack, Bodie and Grayson, and a sister-in-law, Marita Miller of Boothbay.

She is predeceased by a brother, Wayne Miller of Boothbay.

Visiting hours will be held Thursday, October 20th from 4-7 PM at Stetson’s Funeral Home, 12 Federal St., Brunswick.  There will be a celebration of Beverly’s life at the Bath United Methodist Church, 340 Oak Grove Ave on Friday, October 21st at 2 PM.  A private burial will be held in Grove Cemetery at a later date.
