George E. Fox

Obituary
August 11, 1919 - December 25, 2016
Topsham - George E. Fox, age 97, passed away Christmas morning.  The son of Henry M. Sr. and Emily C. Gordon Fox, he was born in Topsham on August 11, 1919.

A life-long member of the Topsham community, George resided in the home where he was born.

At the age of 18, George went to work at the Maine Feldspar Company’s Elm Street mill.  As a young man, he trained sulky horses and was a jockey in the Maine Trotters’ Circuit.  Drafted for active duty in 1942 during WWII, he reported to Fort Devens.  He was honorably discharged from service because of serious health issues.  For most of his life, George was self-employed as a woodsman supplying wood to both pulp mills and local lumberyards as well as Christmas trees to Boston.

George was a dedicated family man.  He will be dearly missed by his nieces, nephews, their families and by friends.

A visiting hour will be held from 1-2 PM on Thursday, January 5 at Stetson’s Funeral Home, 12 Federal St., Brunswick where a funeral service will follow at 2 PM.  Spring interment will be in Rogers Cemetery, Topsham.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to a charity of one’s choice in George’s name.
