Wendell L. Moody Jr.

Freeport- Wendell L. Moody Jr., age 64, died Wednesday, December 13th at his residence.  He was born September 10, 1953 in Jonesport, Maine, the son of Wendell Sr. and Constance Ward Moody.

He attended Topsham schools and was a self-employed clam digger in Maquoit Bay and in Freeport.  Later he worked for Bill Moore Painting until his retirement in 2016.

He and Jane Elwell were long time companions beginning in the early 1970’s, and they later married in the early 1990’s.  She passed away on February 11, 2006.  Wendell and Shirley Hart were companions for several years.

Wendell loved to both work on and buy and sell cars, with the thrill of the barter as his motto.  He also enjoyed working on the house, hunting, fishing, going to the Oxford casino, dancing and karaoke. He especially enjoyed family time and irritating his grandchildren. He loved cooking and baking for his family; their favorites were his famous apple pies, peanut butter balls and his fried clams.

He was predeceased by his brother Jerry Moody.

He is survived by his daughters Cheryl Palmertree and her husband William of Lisbon Falls, Becky Merritt and her husband Richard, of Lisbon Falls, Dede Chase and her husband Scott of Durham, grandchildren Jeremy Dill, Nikki Dubois, Erica Therrien, Brooke and Kiley Merritt, Kayla Giberson, Jessica Ouellette, and Hannah and Ethan Chase, three brothers Claude Moody of Ormand Beach, FL, Leon "Mike” Moody of Lisbon Falls, and Randy Moody of Ormand Beach, FL, nephews Christopher and Bryan Moody both of Ormand Beach, FL, and several aunts, uncles and cousins.

Memorial visiting hours will be held Tuesday, December 19th from 6-8 PM at Stetson’s Funeral Home, 12 Federal St., Brunswick.
