Mary Hisako Sparks, 86, of Brunswick, ME passed away February 10, 2019 at home.  She was born in Yamaguchi, Japan and moved to the United States in 1961 with her husband of 58 years, Allan Sparks Sr.

Mary is survived by her husband, children, Allan and Kim Sparks (Rumford, ME), Vic and Cathy Eastman (Casa Grande, AZ), Brian and Tina Pomerleau (Sparks, NV), Mark and Chris Almy (Topsham, ME), a sister, Umeko Fushitani (Yamaguchi, Japan), a niece, Sachiko Tanimoto (Yamaguchi, Japan), a niece, Miyoko Miyano (Hofu, Japan),  a special longtime friend, Tsuyako Hatanaka (Yamaguchi, Japan) and other family in Japan.  She is also survived by 9 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren.  She was predeceased by her father Sajiro, mother Tome, brother Tsuneske and sister Katsuko.

Mary was the heart and soul of her family, devoting her life completely to her husband, children, grandchildren and close friends.  Her loving and warm-hearted spirit was equally balanced by her love of life…to laugh and to speak her mind.  Mary loved gardening, especially her flowers, taking in the beauty with each passing season.  Watching the birds (especially the chickadees, cardinals and hummingbirds) in her backyard became one of her favorite pastimes.  Her unique and loving spirit will forever be imprinted on the lives she touched.  Mary reflected upon death as a simple process…making room for the babies yet born.

The passing of such a wonderful woman forever changes our world.  Our loss is profound, but our hearts are filled with great love from the best wife, mother, grandmother and friend we could ever have.

Visitation will be held on Friday, February 15th from 4-6 PM at Stetson’s Funeral Home 12 Federal St. Brunswick. A private family celebration will be held at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, the family is asking for memorial donations be made to The Barbara Bush Children’s Hospital, 22 Bramhall Street, Portland, Maine 04102 or by visiting https://fundraising.mmc.org/sslpage.aspx?pid=560  in Mary’s name.
