Alden F. Peckham

Obituary
June 1, 1923 - October 24, 2009


Freeport-Alden F. Peckham, 86, of Curtis Road died Saturday, October 24 at Maine Medical Center in Portland.
He was born in Lynn, MA June 1, 1923, the son of Leslie H. and Mildred Lacain Peckham.
Alden was educated at Essex Agricultural School in Hawthorne, MA where he learned agriculture. He worked as a machinist for the Turner Tanning Leather Company in Peabody, MA.
He enlisted in the Army in May of 1943 and served in the 26th infantry company 1st division. He was involved in the invasion of Normandy and served in Northern France and Rhineland. He received a Purple Heart and a Bronze Star and was honorably discharged in November of 1945.
He married Hope Montgomery in July of 1946. He worked for Boston Naval Shipyard in Chelsea, MA for 30 years before retiring in the early 1970’s and moving to Freeport, ME.
Alden was an avid gardener, enjoyed wood working, furniture making, restoring antique clocks, building and sailing sailboats, fishing and hunting.
Alden is survived by his son Leslie A. Peckham and his wife Mary of Salisbury, MA, 2 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren.
Memorial services will be held at 2PM Monday at Stetson’s Funeral Home, 12 Federal St., Brunswick with the Rev. Ronald McLaughlin officiating.
