Topsham-Robert A. Johnson age 78 of River Road, passed away Tuesday, May 11 at Maine Medical Center in Portland. He was born on February 13, 1932 in Kansas City, Kansas the son of Charles F. and Mary L. Freese Johnson.

Bob graduated from Central High School in Kansas City, MO and entered the National Guard prior to joining the Navy in April of 1953 where he attained the rank of Torpedoman Chief. He served in the Philippines where he married his wife Carrie S. Alcala on December 8, 1956.

In July of 1973 he and his family moved to Brunswick and later to Topsham. Bob retired from the Navy in 1975 and later worked at Bowdoin College for 20 years, retiring in the mid-1990's.

Bob loved building HO Model Trains and maintained a large collection of them over the years.

He enjoyed fishing, boating, collecting post cards, stamps and coins, and traveling. He enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren, especially taking them to train shows. He loved animals, having had many cats and dogs over the years. Bob was an Eagle Scout and a Scout leader. He also routinely helped his friend Dick at the Farmer's Market and he always enjoyed volunteering at the St. John's Bazaar.

Surviving him besides his wife of 54 Carrie from Topsham are his 4 children Mary Ann Green of Topsham, Joseph A. Johnson of Bowdoinham, Patricia A. Wilson of England, K. Andrew "Andy” Johnson of Topsham, sister Virginia Aceves of CA, brother William Johnson of MO, and 7 grandchildren Iain, Sam, Davina, Eric, Becca, Maggie, and Andrew.

Visiting hours will be held Friday, May 14 from 6-8PM at Stetson's Funeral Home, 12 Federal St., Brunswick. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Saturday, May 15 at 10AM at St. John's the Baptist Church-All Saints Parish, Pleasant St., Brunswick with the Rev. Normand Carpentier officiating. Burial with military honors will follow at St. John's Cemetery, Brunswick. A reception will be held following the burial at the Stetson's Funeral Home Reception Center, 12 Federal St., Brunswick.
