Topsham-Hazel Libby passed away August 18, 2010 after a long good -bye with Alzheimer's. She was born January 12, 1931, the youngest child of Bird and Agnes Shellenbarger.

When Hazel was 16, a young man, Henry, moved to the Shellenbarger's home to work as a farmhand. Hazel did not like him; somehow, he changed her mind. They were married on May 12, 1951, raised six children, and remained sweethearts for 58 years until his death in 2009.

Henry took care of Hazel until November, 1998 when her daughter and son-in-law, Julie and Roy Wallace rearranged their home and lives to keep Henry and Hazel together. There are not enough words available to thank them for this.

Although Hazel's illness was difficult at best, thanks to Jon, Natasha, Sam, and Carly, she was able to remain at home on the Shellenbarger farm until her death.

Hazel worked as a waitress at Howard Johnson's and then, a hostess at the Chuck Wagon Restaurant for over 20 years. She enjoyed hunting, camping, Wednesday morning breakfast at Grand City with Dick and Jan Saucier, oil painting, berry picking and most of all, her time in the pool with her grandchildren. Hazel was coordinator for the Topsham Fair kitchen, a 65 year member and past officer of Topsham Grange, and a member of Topsham Baptist Church.

Hazel was predeceased by her son, Norman Libby, sisters, Catherine Upham, Ruth Chamberland, Anne Savage, and her brother, John Shellenbarger.

She is survived by her children, Roy and Julie Wallace, Leon and Barbara Libby, David Libby, Peter and Lorraine Darling, Michael and Celina Coffey, several grandchildren and great grandchildren.

A graveside service will be held at Roger's Cemetery, Cathance Road, Topsham on Tuesday August 24, at 1 o'clock. Family and friends are invited to gather at the Topsham Grange hall following the service.

Instead of flowers, the family request donations to Hospice Care CHANS, 60 Baribeau Drive, Brunswick, ME 04011.

Arrangements are by Stetson's Funeral Home 12 Federal St. Brunswick. Memorial condolences may be expressed at stetsonsfuneralhome.com
