Bowdoin - Norman Lee Jewett, 67 of E. Burrough Road passed away on August 8, 2011 at Mid Coast Hospital in Brunswick from cancer.

In his final few weeks of life, Norman never complained, always smiled and joked, and was surrounded by the family he loved.

He was born in Bath on June 4, 1944, the son of Alvin and Nellie (Kent) Jewett. In his youth he spent time with his grandfather, Erastus Jewett, building boats. Norman graduated from Morse High School in 1964, where he ran track and and broke State records in Power Lifting.

In 1967 he married his high school sweetheart, Mildred Irvin. They had two sons, Norm and Bob. Norman enjoyed hunting with his friends and fishing with his sons. He was a Boilermaker and a Ship Fitter at Bath Iron Works for 44 years, retiring in 2006. In the late 80s he and Milli got divorced and in 1996 he married Sharon Pottle.

Norman was known by all as a man who always had a kind word, a smile, and a helping hand. He is survived by his wife of 15 years, Sharon Jewett of Bowdoin, sons Norman D. Jewett and Robert L. Jewett both of Brunswick, sister Aili Dixon of Brunswick, brother Robert K. Jewett of Bath, and sister Sara Fullerton of Bath as well as many nieces and nephews. He is also survived by step-children; Michael, Albert, Stuart, Joe, Corrie, Matt, and Lisa and a pile of children who knew Norman as Grandpa.

There are no services planned. Norman’s final wish was to just be cremated and to have his ashes thrown in the swamp out back. (Sorry, Dad, this time were not going to listen to you.) His close family will honor him with a celebration of life party in Brunswick.

Arrangements are by Stetson’s Funeral Home, 12 Federal St., Brunswick where memorial condolences may be made at stetsonsfuneralhome.com
