Richard William Herdegen

Obituary
February 27, 1932 - October 8, 2011
Bailey Island- Richard W. Herdegen, age 79 of Water Cove Road, passed away Saturday, October 8th at Mid Coast Hospital. He was born February 27, 1932 in Elizabeth, NJ, the son of Charles and Elizabeth Hasson Herdegen.

Dick graduated from The Jamesine Franklin School of Art in New York City in 1953. He married Joan Nahf on September 17, 1955, settling in the Verona, NJ area. A commercial artist, he worked for several advertising agencies as art director and illustrator and taught drawing at The School of Visual Arts in New York City Later in his career he designed furniture featuring colorful graphics which he exhibited at craft fairs.

Dick and Joan retired to Maine in 1999, where he concentrated on the fine arts, painting pastels which he exhibited at local Maine venues. He had a lifelong interest in jazz music and amassed an extensive collection of jazz records and books. In his youth he played the bass in several jazz groups.

He leaves his wife, Joan, of 56 years, his sister-in-law Mary Ann Nahf of Bailey Island, a niece Lisa Nahf of Rotselaar, Belgium, and a nephew Robert Nahf III of Albuquerque, NM.

There will be no services at this time.
