Hilda M. Coskery

Freeport -Hilda M. Coskery age 86 of Lower Flying Point Road died Saturday, March 30th at the Halifax Medical Center in Port Orange, Florida.


She was born in Freeport on June 24, 1926 the daughter of Victor and Marietta Brewer Coffin. She attended Freeport schools and was a 1944 graduate of Freeport High School.


For many, years Hilda worked at L.L. Bean, INC., both before and after raising her family. She also worked many years at Burnham & Morrill in Portland, ME and Portland City Hall.

In 1980, Hilda opened and operated the Flying Point Campground in Freeport. Hilda truly enjoyed this work and loved the people she met, making many friends over the years. She retired in 2003.


Hilda also served as a scorekeeper for the Maine State Stock Car Racing Assn. at Beech Ridge Motor Speed Way for 25 years. For many years she wintered in Daytona, Florida and for forty years she attended the annual Daytona 500 faithfully.


Hilda enjoyed sewing and quilting, making quilts for all of her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She enjoyed going to cruise-ins and was also an animal lover.


She was a member of MOAL(Maine Obsolete Auto League). Hilda also served as executive secretary of the Maine Campground Association.


She was a member the Freeport Baptist Church, and a former member of the Thomas Means Club and the Freeport Historical Society. Hilda was also a member of the Cackle Club in Bowdoin.

Surviving is a daughter Linda Cole of Freeport. Two sons, Paul Coskery and his wife Sharon and Roland Coskery all of Freeport. Her longtime friend Roland Foster of Freeport. She is also survived by several grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Visiting hours will be held Tuesday, April 9th from 5-8 pm at Stetson's Funeral Home 12 Federal St. Brunswick. A funeral service will be held Wednesday, April 10th at 11am at the funeral home with the Rev. Ronald McLaughlin officiating. Interment will be in Grove Cemetery in Freeport.
