Lucille Catlin Mitchell

September 13, 1926 - November 22, 2015
Brunswick-Lucille Catlin Mitchell, age 89 of Brunswick died Sunday, November 22 at Hawthorne House in Freeport.  She was born September 13, 1926, the daughter of Louis and Mildred Catlin.  She attended Brunswick schools and graduated from Brunswick High School in 1944.

She married her favorite dancing partner, Fred Mitchell, on July 23, 1946, who predeceased her in 2004.  Lucille was a homemaker and mother.  She also worked for Brunswick City Schools as a  nurse’s assistant.

Lucille was an accomplished seamstress, enjoyed knitting and crocheting, and she loved to dance with Fred at any opportunity.  Her family will carry forever her dry sense of humor.

Surviving are son Eugene (Gwynne) Mitchell of Greenfield, NH, and daughters Marlene (Austin) Ganly of Monroe, NC, and Jayne Mitchell (Patricia Orman) of Pueblo, CO, and son Fred Mitchell Jr. (Brenda Meyers) of Bath.

Also surviving are nine grandchildren, 25 great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild.

She was preceded in death by two sisters, Geraldine Weren and Ruth Purinton.

Special thanks to Lucille’s loving granddaughter, Stacia Knowles, great-grandson Scott Knowles, and the staff of Hawthorne House for their care and support.

Visiting hours will be held Friday, November 27 from 5-7 PM at Stetson’s Funeral Home, 12 Federal St., Brunswick, where a funeral service will be held Saturday November 28 at 10 AM with the Rev. Dale Morell officiating.  Burial will follow in Varney Cemetery, Brunswick.

In lieu of flowers, donations in Lucille’s memory may be made to the Foundation Fighting Blindness, 7168 Columbia Gateway Drive, Suite 100, Columbia, MD 22046.
