Topsham- M. Pauline Emerson, age 88 formerly of Middlesex Road, died Monday, December 7 surrounded by her family at Horizon’s Living and Rehab Center in Brunswick.  She was born July 15, 1927, in Eastport, ME, the daughter of Clinton and Ada Capen Milliken.

She attended Eastport Schools and moved to Bath at age 12.  She graduated from Morse High School in 1945.

She helped her mother and father in their taxi business and became a telephone operator in Bath.  While working as an operator, she became a regular for many of her favorites, including several famous actors who filmed the musical Carousel in Maine.

On October 9, 1949, she married Elden Emerson and they built their own home in Topsham.  He passed away on November 16, 2005.

She loved her big family including her parents, 4 brothers, husband and 2 sons and grandchildren.  She was a nurturing person and always thought of others before herself. During the time her sons were in high school, the house was always full of boys whom she loved to cook for which mirrored her life as a teenager with a houseful of her brothers and their friends.

Polly enjoyed watching TV including game shows, soap operas, old movies and the Red Sox.  She liked doing crossword puzzles, bird watching, her pet dogs and cats, and bicycle riding into her 70’s with her friend Cookie.

She is survived by her sons Christopher Emerson and his wife Deborah of Yarmouth and Gregory Emerson and his wife Kimberly of Topsham, 3 grandchildren Brittany, Chloe, and Thomas, and several nieces and nephews.

Besides her husband, she was predeceased by her brothers Benjamin, Robert, Charles and William Milliken.

The family wishes to express their appreciation to the staff at Horizon’s for all of the compassionate care that they gave to Polly.

A funeral service will be held Saturday, December 12 at 11 AM at Stetson’s Funeral Home, 12 Federal St., Brunswick.  Burial will follow at Roger’s Cemetery in Topsham.
