Brunswick – Davis (Dave) McFadden, 87, passed away peacefully at home on November 8, 2017.  He was born in Medford, MA, January 7, 1930, the only child of Danforth and Alice Griffin McFadden.  He was a 1948 graduate of Brunswick High School.

On July 15, 1950, he married the love of his life, Dorothy (Dottie) L. Morrill whom he had met when he was 14 and she was 13.  He served in the U.S. Army Reserve and was employed by Marriner Lumber, National Fireworks Co., and spent most of his career as a foreman and manager at Jay Brush, a division of Grumbacher Art supplies.  After retiring from Jay Brush, he worked at The Dolphin Marina, South Harpswell, "just to keep busy”.

Dave enjoyed having a farm in Brunswick and boarding trotter and pacer racehorses.  His lifelong hobbies included fishing, boating, skiing at Sugarloaf, and raising Labrador retrievers with his father.  He helped organize the Maine Retriever Trial Club in 1950.  He was an avid hunter and outdoorsman, boat builder, and enjoyed spending as much time as possible with his family and friends at his camp on Skunk Point, Moosehead Lake.  Dave also was a longtime member of the Bailey Island Tuna Club and the Orr’s – Bailey Island Fire Department and Rescue.

He is survived by sons, Gary N. McFadden (and his partner, Susan Saveikonis), Georgetown, and Bradford A. McFadden (Cindy Bessmer), Orr’s Island; grandchildren Sarah H. Pennell, Cundy’s Harbor, Eben J. McFadden, Bailey Island, and Todd McFadden, Boulder, CO, and six great-grandchildren:  Shane, Trevin, Kaili, Keegan, Eben, and Gracie.  Dave was predeceased by his wife, Dottie, who died September 16, 2017, and his grandson, Connor McFadden, who died January 13, 2017.  Those who knew him well would say he truly died from a broken heart.

A celebration of Dave’s life will be held on Monday, November 13, at 11:00 am at Stetson’s Funeral Home, 12 Federal Street, Brunswick, ME with interment in the Orr’s Island Cemetery.

Contributions in Dave’s memory may be made to the Orr’s Island Cemetery Association, PO Box 232, Orr’s Island, ME  04066 or to the charity of one’s choice.
