Brunswick- John Ribas, age 83, 28 Magean Street, died Thursday December 7th, 2017, at home, in the arms of his loving wife, Circe Ribas. He was born in Havana, Cuba on September 10, 1934, the son of Antonio and Aida Farina Ribas.

The Ribas family immigrated to New York City in 1944. John attended Morris High School in the Bronx, where he met his childhood sweetheart Circe Sanabria. They were married on June 20, 1953. They were happily married for 64 years.

John worked in the corrugated cardboard industry for 19 years and was shop-steward for his Union Local 65 of the Teamsters. He moved his family to Fort Lauderdale Florida in 1972 when he and his brother, Antonio Ribas bought a small print shop together and named it Mark III press. Eventually John purchased his brother’s share of the business and renamed it Mark V Press. He ran the shop until his retirement in 2010. Due to health issues, John and Circe moved to Brunswick, Maine in 2013, to share a home with their son, José Ribas. John loved walking the long beaches of Fort Lauderdale and particularly enjoyed Sunday brunches on the beach with family and friends. He and Circe were known to walk the 3 miles from their home to the beach and then walk another 2 or 3 miles along the shore. When they could not make the long walk to the ocean, John and Circe could be found at the local movie theaters and were in the habit of seeing at least one movie a week.

John was also was an avid baseball fan and kept his loyalties to the Yankees and the Marlins. He once sent a letter to Dave Dombrowski, general manager of the Marlins at the time, trying to convince him to draft his grandson Gabe Ribas, who was a standout pitcher for Brunswick High School. Gabe eventually was drafted by the San Diego Padres.

Survivors include John’s wife, Circe Ribas of Brunswick, his son José Ribas of Brunswick, and his two daughters, Circe Howle and her husband Kirk, of Brunswick, and Christina Ribas and her husband Steve Walker of Atlanta Georgia. John and Circe were also guardians to Zoe Sanabria Faso, who with her husband Mike Faso, reside in Middletown NY. He is also survived by two brothers, Antonio Ribas of Fort Lauderdale, FL, George Ribas and his wife Margie of Kerhonkson NY, and his sister Mercy Ribas of Fort Lauderdale, Fl.

John left behind four grandchildren and one great grandchild: Gabe Ribas, wife Kristin of Scottsdale, Arizona; John Kirk Howle, wife Jessica of Lincoln, Nebraska, Gabe Howle of Brunswick, Zoe Howle of Brunswick, and great granddaughter Ellery Ribas of Scottsdale, Arizona.
