Dr. Richard H. Bartlett

Brunswick- Richard Bartlett, age 88 of Sunnybrook Senior Living died Wednesday, January 24th at Mid Coast Hospital in Brunswick. He was born in Pejepscot on June 28, 1929. He was the son of Henry and Alice Bartlett.

He graduated from Brunswick H.S. ('47), Farmington State Teachers College ('51), Univ. of Connecticut (Masters '63) and Univ. of Virginia (PhD. '70).

He and his wife Beverly, who passed in Oct., 2016, were married for 57 years.

As a young man, he enjoyed riding and showing horses at his Uncle Skipper Bartlett's stables in Naples. He served in the Navy in the Korean War. He taught school and was principal on Peaks Island for a year in the early 50's. He worked at Pineland Hospital in the late 50's before embarking on a career in special education. He taught at both the University of Virginia and the University of Georgia. He retired from the Maine Dept. of Education in '92 and continued assisting at the Morrison Center until 2002.

Late in life he became an avid Red Sox and Patriots fan. He was so thrilled to be able to go back to the Univ. of Georgia to see a football game last fall with his son Anthony and daughter in-law Kathy.

He was an active member of the Bath United Methodist Church.Surviving are sons, Marshall and wife Carol of Bowdoinham, Anthony and wife Kathy of Massachusetts. Six grandchildren; Necia, Christopher, Stephen, Rachel, Dylan and Cameron, three great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews and a sister-in-law, Marita Miller of Boothbay. He was pre-deceased by brothers, Arthur, James and Randall, parents, sister-in-law Florence and brother-in-law Wayne.

Visiting hours will be held from 4-7 PM Tuesday, January 30th at Stetson’s Funeral Home 12 Federal St. Brunswick.  A funeral service will be held at 10 AM Wednesday, January 31st at the Bath United Methodist Church 340 Oak Grove Ave., Bath.

In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made in his memory to the Beverly Bartlett Fund (for children’s ministry) Bath United Methodist Church, 340 Oak Grove Avenue Bath, Maine 04530.
