William L. "Chick" Ciciotte

Topsham- William "Chick” L. Ciciotte age 85 resident of Tedford Road and longtime resident of Topsham died Sunday, May 27th at Mid Coast Hospital in Brunswick.

He was born in Clinton, MA on February 16, 1933 the son of Edward and Thelma Palmer Ciciotte.

As a youngster Chick went into the city of Worcester where he shined shoes for the business men and brought the money home to his parents to help raise the family.

At age seventeen Chick joined the United States Air Force where he served as a radar operator technician.

Chick was on the Air Force boxing team and became the New England Bantam Weight Champion. He also made it to the Olympic boxing trials.

On April 14, 1962 while stationed in Brunswick, Chick married Carol Owen. They continued with Chick’s military career until his retirement in 1972.

After his retirement Chick began his lifelong commitment to veterans and community service.

He started a youth boxing club for boys. Chick served as a selectman for the Town of Topsham for several terms. Chick helped reorganize the Topsham American Legion Post 202 and more recently the Brunswick American Legion Post 20 leading to a forty-year commitment for veteran’s advocacy.

Chick served in numerous State, Regional and National Offices in the American Legion.

In addition to his wife Carol of 56 years of Topsham are four children Angela Tucker of Topsham, Anthony Ciciotte of Augusta, Andrew and Angelo Ciciotte both of Brunswick. Two brothers Raymond Ciciotte of Garden Grove, CA and Edward Ciciotte of Hemet, CA. A sister Dorothy Croteau of Hemet, CA. Also survived by eight grandchildren and eight great grandchildren.

He was predeceased by a daughter Mary Elizabeth Ciciotte and a brother Donald Ciciotte.

Visiting hours will be held Friday, June 1st from 4-6 PM at Stetson’s Funeral Home 12 Federal St. Brunswick, where an American Legion Service will be held at 5:30 PM. A funeral service will be Saturday, June 2nd at 11 AM at the funeral home with the Rev. Thomas Murphy officiating. A celebration of life service will follow at the Brunswick American Legion Post, 1 Columbus Drive. Interment with graveside military honors will be held Thursday, June 7th at 2PM at the Maine Veterans Memorial Cemetery 163 Mt. Vernon Road, Augusta.

Memorial donations may be made to the Brunswick American Legion Post 20 in memory of William "Chick” Ciciotte 1 Columbus Drive Brunswick, Maine 04011.
