Enfield-Francis R. Giroux, 81, of Enfield, Maine died Sunday, September 16, 2018 in Brunswick, Maine at the home of his daughter.  In true Francis form he suffered in silence from a multitude of illnesses.

He was born in Bangor, Maine on January 22, 1937, the son of Lucien & Edna (Paradis) Giroux, growing up in Brunswick and graduating from the Brunswick High School class of 1955.  Francis began his working career at Pejepscot Paper Co.  His creative side led him to become a self-taught successful mason contractor until his retirement in 2001.  His desire for perfection of his craft began at the house he built in Topsham and later in South Harpswell.  His work can be found in some of the finest homes and businesses in the Midcoast area. Upon his retirement he moved to Cold Stream Pond in Enfield, Maine where he enjoyed 17 memorable years.

Francis lived each day as if it were his last.  "He worked like a captain and played like a pirate”.  Each summer & winter he enjoyed camping, hunting and fishing at Moosehead Lake with his family & friends. Francis made a name for himself be hosting an annual 4th of July Lobster Bake and for an annual fishing derby held in his trout pond for his grandsons and friends’ children. He supplied the neighborhood children with ice cream treats on a daily basis.  For entertainment on Cold Stream Pond, Francis would offer $100.00 to anyone who would dare to jump into the lake in November. There was an elite group of those that did. Francis’ generosity and big heart is legendary.

He was a lifetime member of the Brunswick Elks Club and the American Legion and served in the Maine Army National Guard.

Francis is survived by his daughter Lynda A. Bishop and her husband Bradford of Waterville, and daughter Sharon G. Panek and her husband John of Brunswick; grandsons A. Taylor Powell (Victoria), Cameron A. Bishop (Ashley) and Kyle F. Bishop and great grandson Brayden (Pumpkinhead) Powell.  Francis is survived by his sister Nancy Giroux Pagurko (Bernard) and brother Ray Giroux and spouse David Petrie.  He was predeceased by his parents Lucien and Edna and his brother Roger Giroux and his wife Colleen.  Also close to his heart was the mother of his children, Joanne Lucas, and several special nieces and nephews.  Lynda and Sharon would especially like to thank cousins Dianne, Kelly, Karen, Mark and Todd.

A private service will be held at Stetson’s Funeral Home, 12 Federal St., Brunswick, ME.  A celebration of his life will be Friday, September 21st from 1 to 4PM at the Brunswick Elk Lodge, 179 Park Row, Brunswick.  This will be an open house.

In lieu of flowers the family requests donations to Barbara Bush Children’s Hospital 22 Bramhall Street Portland, Maine 04102.
