A resident of Brunswick and Rangeley, Maine, Bert died September 26, 2018 at the Maine Veteran’s Home in Scarborough. Born in Topsham, Maine in 1931, the eldest son of Adelard and Irene (St. Pierre) Breton, Bert attended local schools before enlisting in the Marines in 1948. He deployed to China to extricate Americans as Moa Zedong assumed power and later to Korea where he fought at the Chosin Reservoir with the 7th Marine Regiment - achieving the rank of Staff Sergeant.
In June 1953 Bert married Vivian Favreau. He worked at the Brunswick Naval Air Station, retiring from the Fire Department in 1986. Over their 65 years of marriage, Bert and Vicky shared a love of boating, skiing, dancing, travel and spending as much time as possible with family and friends. Bert built his own home, rehabbed two cottages, helped his children build their homes and loved working with small engines – amazingly, he still found time to play golf. He will be remembered for his love of life and living each day fully.

Bert is survived by his wife Vivian, daughter Darlene (Timothy Wachtl) Breton (ME); son Mark (Marilyn) Breton (FL); brothers Francois "Al”(FL), Maurice (FL), and Gerard (Evelyn) Breton (NH); sisters Patricia Mardis (AZ), Anne (Ralph) D’Errico (CA); and grandchildren Marissa (Frank) Emanuele (MA), and Mitchell Breton.

The family wishes to thank the staff at the Brunswick Respite Care Program, Governor King Center at the Highlands and the Maine Veteran’s Home at Scarborough for the loving care and support offered during his final days.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Thursday, October 11th at 11 AM at St. Charles Borromeo Church-All Saints Parish 132 McKeen St. Brunswick.

Inurnment with military honors will be held at a later date in the niche at the Maine Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Civic Center Drive, Augusta, Maine.

In lieu of flowers, donations made in memory of Bert to the Maine Alzheimer’s Association, 383 US Rt.1 Suite 2C, Scarborough ME 04074 to further research will be appreciated. Arrangements are by Stetson’s Funeral Home 12 Federal St. Brunswick where memorial condolences may be expressed at
