Roger Lewis Flaig

January 19, 1950 - January 8, 2019

Topsham-Roger L. Flaig age 68 of River Road died Tuesday, January 8, 2019 at Marshwood Center in Lewiston after a courageous battle with cancer.

He was born in Brunswick on January 19, 1950 the son of Peter and Jeanne Trank Flaig. Roger attended Topsham and Brunswick schools and was a 1968 graduate of Brunswick High School.Roger graduated from Central Maine Vocational Technical Institute (CMVTI) in 1970.

On February 20, 1976 he married his soul mate Sally Jean Fairhurst. She died on December 13, 2013.

Roger worked at Bath Iron Works as a Machinist for 36 years, retiring in 2012.In addition to his role building ships, he built many long-term relationships with coworkers and was well respected among his peers at the yard.

Roger was a family man and enjoyed spending quality time with his sons, wife and immediate family. He enjoyed riding his four-wheeler around the "farm”, visiting his brothers and deer hunting. In his younger years, he enjoyed motorcycle riding with a close group of friends from the "old days”.

Most will remember Roger’s quick wit and one liners that made everyone laugh. He always had a great idea to share.

The family would like to thank Joey Obrin for being such a great friend to Roger.

He had been a member of the Brunswick Elks Lodge for many years.

Surviving is a son Justin Flaig of Norway and a son Timothy P. Flaig of Topsham. Three brothers, Donald P. Flaig and wife Judy, Daniel J. Flaig and wife Debbie and Randall W. Flaig all of Topsham. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews.

In addition to his wife he was also predeceased by infant son Roger Jr. who died in 1976.

A funeral service will be held Wednesday, January 16th at 1PM at Stetson’s Funeral Home 12 Federal Street Brunswick where a video tribute may be viewed and memorial condolences may be expressed at  Memorial donations may be made to the Coastal Humane Society 190 Pleasant St. Brunswick, Maine 04011.
