TOPSHAM -
Barbara Ann (Smart) Tibbitts, 82, died peacefully in her sleep on Saturday,
March 9, 2019. She was born January 2, 1937 in Millinocket, Maine, the first
born child of Alice Marie Madore and Frank Joseph Smart Sr. She grew up in
Millinocket and graduated from Stearns High School in 1956. On May 17, 1958,
she married her high school sweetheart, Dean George Tibbitts.
Dean was
in the Navy so they moved around the country together from one duty station to
another. They lived in Rhode Island, Idaho, Massachusetts, South Carolina, New
Jersey, Washington, Connecticut, New York twice, and California three times.
She loved traveling and meeting new people. They moved back to Maine when Dean
retired from the Navy in 1979. Barbara enjoyed sewing, embroidery, bowling,
cake decorating, cooking for company, puzzles, and having her fortune told.
Dean
passed away in 2015 and Barbara’s health began to decline. She missed him
terribly, having been together for more than 60 years. She moved to Avita of
Brunswick in the fall of 2017 when she required more assistance than her family
could provide at home. She enjoyed the activities and staff there very much.
Barbara is
survived by a daughter Dina and her husband Tony, a son Scott and his wife
Angela, a grandson Jeffrey and his daughter Vivienne (great granddaughter), a
granddaughter Sarah and her husband Corey, grandsons Griffin, Caleb, and Angus
and step-grandsons Garrett and Sage. A sister Ethel and her husband Al, a
brother Frank Jr and his wife Betty, a brother-in-law Donn, sisters-in-law
Connie, Carolyn, Patty and her husband Karl, and Helen and her partner Richard.
Many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends including a special niece Nancy.
In
addition to her husband Dean, Barbara was predeceased by a sister Sally and her
husband Bob, a brother Michael, a sister-in-law Linda, a brother-in-law Don,
nephews Steven and Michael Jr, nieces Kellan and Terri and a special niece
Liza.
