Venice, FL & Brunswick, ME-John St. Onge, A Tall Maine Pine has Fallen, born Joseph Jean Marie George St. Onge in Brunswick, Maine on January 25, 1929 passed away peacefully on August, 22, 2019 in Venice, FL where he and his wife Ann have called home for the past 20 years.

John grew up in Brunswick, the youngest of five children and the only son of George and Delia St. Onge, along with his late sisters: Martine (Sr. Theresa), Francine (Sr. Florence), Georgette (Sr. Therese), Lillian and Marie France. He graduated from Brunswick High School in 1947. In 1954, he married Ann Elizabeth Mitchell and together they raised a close-knit and loving family. John is survived by his beloved wife, Ann, his sons: Mark, Michael, Matthew and John, and his favorite daughter Martine (Tina), along with their beloved spouses, ten grandchildren and four great grandchildren.

Jean Marie was a man who cared deeply for his family above all else. He will be remembered for his easy going manner and his ability to listen. He was happiest when surrounded by his family and proud of their achievements. John also enjoyed the company of his friends and a good laugh. He enjoyed the outdoors, often accompanying his sons on their annual fishing trips up North and he was a hunter (although he only bagged one deer in his lifetime). In his early career, when living in Gardiner, he worked for Armour and Co. and later on for Goodwin Chevrolet. A devoted husband and father, John supported Ann’s nursing career at the Bowdoin College Infirmary by taking care of his children while she took care of the students. He spent countless hours supporting his boys’ participation in Brunswick Youth Hockey (and beyond), driving them to early morning practices and a fixture at all their games often in the company of his late sister France.

This past January, John celebrated his 90th birthday surrounded by family and friends all of whom will miss him dearly and be forever grateful for his warmth, support, encouragement and love.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Friday, September 13th at 11 AM at St. John’s the Baptist Church- All Saints Parish, 39 Pleasant St., Brunswick with committal prayers to follow at Growstown Cemetery, Church Road, Brunswick. Memorial donations may be made to Big Brothers Big Sisters of Bath Brunswick 85 Maine Street, Brunswick, Maine 04011.
