Beau (Ivan M.) Hodgdon

Brunswick-Beau (Ivan M.) Hodgdon of Brunswick, died on February 5th at Mid Coast Hospital in Brunswick.  He was born in the Town of Sebago, February 20,1925, the son of Ivan Leroy and Iola Holt Hodgdon.  After several moves due to his father’s employment, he graduated from Middletown High School, Middletown, CT where he was active in sports, lettering in football as a Quarterback. 

Beau is a proud WW II Veteran, having served in the U.S. Navy as a Gunner’s Mate.  After meeting his wife, Helen T. Moran at Lakeview Dance Hall, Tyngsboro, MA, they were married on December 4th, 1948.  Beau and Helen lived in Westford, MA, where Beau was in construction.  After hammering his thumb on a job in the winter and realizing he couldn’t feel it, he uprooted and moved to South Florida.  After working as a Licensed Contractor for several years, he joined Eastern Airlines as a carpenter until his retirement in 1986. 

Beau was a lifelong sports enthusiast, cheering for the Miami Dolphins prior to locating to Brunswick.  Every weekend in the Fall, he was on the "50 yard line” watching college and NFL football.  He rarely missed an evening without watching the Boston Red Sox.  He was also an accomplished woodworker having created custom cabinetry for many years.  An avid traveler, he visited several countries and nearly all 50 Unites States.  One of his favorite spots was his Camp on Pushaw Lake in Orono where he spent summers after retirement.

He was a member of the Eastern Airlines Retirees Association where he continued to maintain friendships years after retiring.

Surviving are his wife of 71 years, Helen of Brunswick.  His son Ronald, (Patricia) of Pownal.  His daughter Patricia Franko, (Thomas) of Broadview Heights, OH. Grandchildren Patrick Franko of North Royalton, OH, Stephen Franko (Kelly)  of Clarksville, TN and Katherine Franko of Austin, TX.  He is also survived by his sister Geraldine Tuccio of Florida and several nieces and nephews.

A graveside service will be held at Maine Veteran’s Memorial Cemetery Section H 163 Mount Vernon Road in Augusta on August 27th at 1pm.  All are invited to attend. 

In lieu of flowers, donations to   Honor Flight Maine, in memory of Beau are suggested.  Beau was honored to visit Washington, D.C. as a guest of Honor Flight Maine in 2017.  Honor Flight Maine, PO Box 1770, Portland, ME  04104-1770.
