Howard Herrick Walker, Jr. Retired Postal Employee

Brunswick-Howard H. Walker, Jr., 87, died June 28 after a brief illness. He was born in Brunswick in 1920, son of Howard H. and Mildred Harris Walker.

He graduated from Brunswick High School in 1937, attended Bowdoin College in 1938 and worked at B.I.W. in the Shipfitter Apprentice Program through 1942.

In 1942, Howard married his high school sweetheart Phyllis Eileen Olsen and they would have celebrated their 65th wedding anniversary this September.

In 1943, he served in the Army Amphibian and Transportation Corp in the European theatre through England, France, Belgium and Holland. At one time while working supplies through Antwerp Harbor in Belgium the well known Gannett Press Herald Foreign Correspondent May Craig interviewed him.

After returning from service Howard went into the Postal Service and worked there for 33 years.

His greatest enjoyments were being with his family, traveling, playing golf, oil painting and playing the piano. He was a lifelong member of the First Parish Congregational Church and a member of the Brunswick Golf Club for over twenty years.

Surviving besides his wife of Brunswick, is a daughter Carol A. Gammon of Wiscasset, a son Scott T. Walker Sr. of Brunswick and his wife Althea, a daughter Shelley D. Reynolds of Brunswick and her husband Walter, a brother Robert Walker of Cumberland Foreside. Also survived by nine grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.

A memorial service will be held 2 PM Sunday, July 15th at Riverside Cemetery in Brunswick for family and friends.
