TOPSHAM - Alan Wayne Teachey, of Topsham, Maine, departed this earth on January 10, 2024. Wayne was born in Wilmington, NC, on April 4, 1945, the youngest child of Alfred Teachey, and Ida Virginia Marine Teachey. He graduated from New Hanover High School and received his BS degree from Wilmington College. He worked at Mrs. Robie's store through high school and college, and at Sears in Wilmington for 38 years. After retirement from Sears and moving to Brunswick, Maine, he worked for 7 years at Hannaford Supermarket, where he endeared himself to his customers and coworkers through his kind and generous spirit.
He met the love of his life, Deborah Doucett, at St. Paul's Episcopal Church in Wilmington, NC, where they married on September 25, 1988. Two sons were born of that marriage, Noah James Teachey and Caleb Alan Teachey, whom Wayne adored beyond all reason and of whose accomplishments he was immensely proud.
Wayne was predeceased by his parents and his brother, David. He is survived by his wife and children, by his sister, Dinah, and one niece, one great niece and one great nephew.
In addition to spending time with his wife and children, Wayne was happiest when listening to classical music and when studying the heavens. As an amateur astronomer, starting at age 10 with a pair of plastic binoculars, he made his most memorable journeys through the lenses of his binoculars and his telescopes. He was even able to design a backyard observatory which he had built. Now, Wayne travels the realm of his dreams, among the stars he loved so much.
A memorial service and celebration of Wayne's life will be held via Zoom on his birthday, April 3, 2024. In this way, friends and relatives may participate without the burden of travel. Please save the date, and to receive your Zoom link, you may email Noah Teachey at nteachey@gmail.com.
