Bowdoin- Charles Edward Fitz, 87, died peacefully on December 6, 2025, with his loving family by his side.
Born on December 19, 1937, in Topsham, Maine, the son of the late Wiliam D. and Henrietta L. (Bibber) Fitz. Charles was a man of honor, resilience, and remarkable courage.
Charles dedicated his life to raising his family and to serving his country including Vietnam, rising through the ranks to become a respected Master Sergeant in the United States Air Force. His sense of duty, unwavering loyalty, and commitment to excellence made him a figure of admiration among his peers. After retiring from the military, Charles made his home in Bowdoin with his wife of 68 years, Lorraine. He then joined the United States Postal Service, a career which spanned more than twenty years.
In his spare time, Charles could be found polishing his car, mowing his lawn, and playing with his cats. In his early years he enjoyed hunting, fishing and auto mobiles.
Charles graduated from Wayne Community College in North Carolina, with an aircraft and power plant degree in aviation. He was a licensed Instructor Pilot for small aircraft. He was a member of the American Legion, Topsham Post #202 and the Veterans of Foreign War Post #2197, he is also a graduate of the Air Force NCO Academy.
Charles was preceded in death by his brothers, William and Carlton Fitz, and his grandson, Garrett McIntire. He is survived by his loving wife, Lorraine Fitz; his sons Charles Fitz Jr. and Lawrence Fitz; daughters, Sandra Redd and Christine Goan; nine grandchildren and eleven` great grandchildren; many nieces and nephews. His memory will be celebrated by all who knew him.
Visiting hours celebrating Charles life will be held on Monday, December 15, 2025, from 3:00pm to 6:00pm at Stetson's Funeral Home, 12 Federal Street, Brunswick, ME. A graveside service will be held in the chapel of the New Maine Veterans Cemetery, Mount Vernon Road, Augusta, ME on Tuesday, December 16, 2025, at 1:00pm.
