Obituary

DEAN KENNETH CLARK (1941-2024) Dean Kenneth Clark passed away gracefully at home on July 15, 2024, with his beloved wife Cathy by his side. Dean grew up in Syracuse, NY with his mom Lillian, dad Kenneth, brothers Ronald and Bruce and sister Nancy Clark McAllaster (all predeceased). He felt that he had the most loving and wonderful family. At an early age he had a very large paper route where he learned how to work hard and get the job done. He loved to play basketball at the Church with his friends and was very proud of his running and long jump accomplishments. His children came along at an early age. He worked hard to support them - daughter Bonny Greenleaf (husband Lane) and sons Mark and Dylan. During their young years he held two jobs and attended college at night. At one point all he could afford was a bologna sandwich and water which he took with him on the bus every day. He did not eat bologna as an adult……! He continued to strive and was recognized each step of the way. Dean had a long and very successful career in the footwear industry working for Dunham Shoe as a salesman and finally as Vice President of Sales at Sebago Shoe Company. He was respected by both his bosses and those he managed. While pursuing a very challenging career, he discovered car racing, which became a lifelong hobby. He started in auto cross. Then he attended the Jim Russell and Skip Barber racing schools. He was active in many car clubs such as COM (Corvettes of Massachusetts), Porche, BMW and Audi where he instructed high speed driving. He also was very successful racing Corvettes as #44. He and Cathy were very active together in these clubs and made many lifelong friends. His love for the automobile was endless, especially for Jaguars. Until his death, he continued to learn. In retirement he and Cathy built a home that they truly were very proud of. He attended Midcoast Senior College for 15 years and took classes in many subjects, some outside his comfort zone, but felt it widened his knowledge. He also was on the Appeals Board in his town and took his responsibility very seriously. He was very proud not only of his children, but of his Grandson Matthew Perkins, and his Granddaughter Erin Perkins. The shining lights in later years for Dean were his great grandchildren Alekzander Pharr and Nora and June Perkins. If anyone came to visit, he would regale all with stories of love for them. Dean also loved and was loved by his sister-in-law Joyce and brother-in-law Bob (both deceased), his sister-in-law Carolyn and the most wonderful nieces and nephews. He will be missed by many for his wisdom, sense of humor, and his respect for everything good. He was an absolute gentleman. Something he said over and over, was that he didn't understand why so many people loved and respected him. He shined light and love on the entire world around him.
