Dolores Joyce Herbers passed away on September 7, 2014, at her residence in Bath, ME.
Born April 4, 1925, in St Louis, MO to Carl W and Anna M (Becker) Guetschow, she was predeceased by her husband of 31 years, Joseph A Herbers, her parents, and her brother, Kenneth C Guetschow.
In St. Louis, Joyce worked as an usher at Kiel Auditorium, a secretary at Anheuser-Busch, and then in her husband's law practice until his death in 1982. Their children are Jill Herbers Small (Mrs Charles G Small) of Bath, ME, and Janice L Herbers of Mesa, AZ. She was "Nana" and "DJ" to granddaughters, Rebecca Joyce Small and Shannon Taylor Herbers, as well as to their friends and neighborhood children.
She also is survived by sister-in-law Ann Guetschow, godchild Joyce Drechsel, and many nieces, nephews, and friends in St Louis, MO.
A truly social person, Joyce was always ready for an adventure. Soon after moving to Maine in 1994, she became gift shop coordinator at Bath Memorial Hospital. She was a longtime volunteer at the MidCoast Hospital, including working with the Friday 'lunch bunch' in the Cafe.
Joyce enjoyed word puzzles, needlework, and knitting prayer shawls which brought warmth and comfort to others. She phoned and wrote to her many friends regularly and will be remembered for her gracious and generous spirit, unique sense of humor, and inimitable laugh.
A gathering in celebration of her life will be held at the Plant Home, 1 Washington Street, Bath, Maine on September 27, 2014, from 2-4 pm.
Joyce will be interred at Sunset Memorial Park, St Louis, MO at a date convenient to her family.
