BRUNSWICK- Doris Emilia St. Onge age 82 passed away Monday, May 26, 2014 at 3:40 a.m. at Dionne Commons in Brunswick Maine. She was born in Brunswick on August 21st, 1931 to Emile and Adrienne (Belanger) Bernier. She had one brother, Raymond A. Bernier (Deceased).
Doris graduated from Mount Merici Academy in 1949 and in July of that same year she became postulant, Sister Mary Therese, of the Ursuline Sisters Roman Catholic Religious Order. Took her first vows and received her white veil. Realizing that this was not her vocation she returned to Brunswick.
On August 27th 1955 Doris married George Dominic St. Onge. Together Doris and George had three sons. Philip St. Onge and his wife Crystal and their three children of Winslow, David St. Onge (deceased) and his two children George and Todd of Palm Bay, Florida, and Robert St. Onge of New York City and Augusta Maine and his partner John Reny of Augusta. Her husband predeceased her on October 16, 2013.
In 1962 the family moved to Winslow Maine where her husband George owned and operated Dexter's Drug Store. During this time, in addition to being a home maker she also volunteered at Saint Andres Home for Adoptive Services and was a member of Mount Merici Academy Alumni Association and later was employed as the Mount Merici Academy bookkeeper.
Later in life the couple returned to Brunswick to care for Doris's mother Adrienne and her sister Alice. She was a parishioner of St. John's the Baptist Church, spoke fluent French, was an accomplished pianist, enjoyed Broadway Theatre, and was Tony Bennett's number one fan.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00a.m., Friday, May 30th, 2014 at St. John the Baptist Church, 39 Pleasant Street, Brunswick Maine 04011.
A committal service will be held at 9 a.m., Monday, June 16th, 2014 at the Maine Veterans Memorial Cemetery 163 Mt. Vernon Road, Augusta, Maine 04011.
