Edith Margaret McCafferty 92, of Daytona Beach, FL and Portland, ME passed away peacefully at the Gosnell House in Scarborough, ME on November 5, 2010. She was born on June 30, 1918 in Brunswick, ME the daughter of Allan G. and Annastacia (Cunningham) McGuire. Edith graduated from Brunswick High School 1936.
Worked for various businesses in the Brunswick area including the Harding's Plant at BIW during WWII as a laborer.
On January 15, 1945she married Louis (Bud) McCafferty.
In 1969 she and her husband Bud relocated from Brunswick to Daytona Beach, FL. She worked as a bank teller and loved working around her home and walking the beach daily. Edith was a long time volunteer and Eucharistic Minister for the Church of The Epiphany in Daytona Beach. Edith returned to Maine in June of 2007 and lived independently until her death. She will be remembered affectionately by all, for her independence, positive spirit, and sense of style.
Edith was predeceased by her husband Louis "Bud" McCafferty in 1983. Her brother Allan McGuire, sisters Annabelle Ouellette, Charlotte Jones, and Helen McGuire. She is survived by her sister Freda Farrar of Andover, MA. along with many nieces and nephews.
Edith leaves many friends in the Daytona Beach area including her dearest friend and neighbor Tommy Partin. Here in Portland she cherished the friends and staff where she lived at Park Danforth, especially her dinner club Esther, Pearl, Sophie, and Henry.
The family wishes to extend heartfelt gratitude to the people of the Gosnell Memorial Hospice House for their care and compassion. Also very special thanks to Laurie A. Small, MD and the MMC IV Therapy staff of Scarborough for their constant and continued support during this last year of her illness.
Visiting hours will be from 12:00-1:30 PM Wednesday, November 10, 2010 at Stetson's Funeral Home, 12 Federal Street, Brunswick, Maine followed by a funeral mass at the St. Charles Borromeo Church, 132 McKeen Street Brunswick. Interment will follow in St. John's Cemetery Brunswick. A reception will follow at Stetson's Funeral Home Reception Center.
