Obituary

Brunswick, Maine – Eileen E. Kelleher, age 89, died Friday, November 8th, at home. She was born on January 11, 1924, the daughter of Frederick Clifford "Kip" and Helen Agnes (Shanahan) Hamilton. Eileen graduated from high school in Stamford, Connecticut in 1942. She was awarded a Bachelor of Science degree from Pratt Institute in 1946. She worked as a professional home economist until her marriage. Eileen married Robert L. Kelleher on July 29, 1950 in Springdale, Connecticut. They settled on Long Island, New York, first in Westbury and then Northport, before moving to Brunswick. Eileen was a volunteer for the American Red Cross for 20 years and an active member of the Huntington Hospital Auxiliary. Eileen was a talented artist creating traditional style hooked rugs. She was a member of the Long Island Guild of Rug Crafting Artists and the National Guild of Pearl K. McGown Hookcrafters. Eileen was a skilled maker of beautiful hand knits, a "from scratch" baker and an avid reader of fiction. She and her husband were members for many years of the Northport Historical Society and were granted lifetime membership when they moved to Maine. Eileen and Robert were members of the Northport Yacht Club, where she acted for several years as entertainment committee person, and supported her husband's interest in sailboat racing and race management with her work as a race committee member on many occasions. Surviving is her husband of 63 years, Robert L. Kelleher of Brunswick, two daughters, Maura E. Kelleher of New York, NY and Harpswell, Maine; Brenda A. Kelleher, of Harpswell; Michael J. Kelleher, MD, who with his wife Denise are of Berlin, Maryland; and Brian R. Kelleher who with his wife Marne, are of Treasure Island, Florida; and three grandchildren, John, Benjamin and Anna. A Memorial Mass will be offered at date yet to be determined.
