BRUNSWICK, ME – Ernest L. Frost, Sr., 84, died on Sunday, (6/15/14), at his home in Brunswick. Born in Brattleboro, VT on August 19, 1929, he was the son of Harry and Mary (Howard) Frost.
Ernie attended schools in Massachusetts, Missouri, and Vermont, then joining the navy in 1945, where he served as a machinist's mate on the USS Cowpens. Following his military service, he returned to New England, and was employed for many years as a machinist and bookbinder at the Brattleboro Book Press, retiring after many years.
During his lifetime, Ernie's interests included bowling, coin collecting, dancing, fishing, hunting, civil war and family history, metal detecting, reading, movie watching, and scouring tag sales and thrift shops. As a child he sang on a local radio program and maintained a lifelong love of music. He was a fun-loving friend to many, freely giving of his warm, gentle spirit. Ernie was a member of the Brattleboro VFW, the Brattleboro Lodge #102, and the Cairo Temple (He was 32nd degree mason of the Scottish Rite and a member of both the clown and snowmobile units).
In addition to his wife, Bonnie, he leaves their six cats; a son Ernest, Jr. of Northfield, MA, and a daughter Kimberly Stewart of Chester, VA; grandchildren; two step-children, Jason Barrows of Brattleboro, VT, and Joella Barrows of Saxtons River, VT; as well as numerous cousins, nephews, and nieces.
A graveside service will be held at the North Vernon Cemetery in Vernon, VT at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, June 21st.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Windham County Humane Society, P.O. Box 397, Brattleboro, VT. 05302.
