Brunswick- George R. Potter of Brunswick, Maine passed away on June 25, 2025, at Mere Point Nursing Home after a long illness.
He was born April 29th, 1936, in Concord, New Hampshire to Robert Potter and Olive Weatherbee Potter. In 1948, George's family moved to Wareham, Massachusetts. George graduated from Wareham High School in 1956.
Following graduation, he entered the Air Force and attended Air Police school at Lackland AFB in Texas graduating with top security clearance. For two years, he was stationed in Okinawa and Iwo Jima where he served as a security guard from 1956-58.
Following his discharge from the Air Force, he held several other jobs in the Massachusetts area for 11 years before taking a Federal Civil Service position at Otis Air Force Base in Cape Cod where he worked for four years. In 1973, he transferred to Brunswick Naval Air Station where he worked in the Commissary Store. After 31 years of service, he retired from BNAS in June of 1996.
In November 1976, he married Anita Laferriere Cloutier at St. John the Baptist Church in Brunswick. She predeceased him in 1998.
George is a 9th generation, direct descendant of John Alden and Priscilla Mullens. He was a lifetime member of the Alden Kindred of America in Duxbury, Massachusetts. George was a dedicated follower of the NBA and a lifelong Celtics and Patriots fan.
He is survived by his stepdaughter, Joyce Cloutier Tupper of South Portland and stepson Gerard Cloutier of Bowdoinham. He is also survived by several grandchildren and great-grandchildren as well as several cousins.
George's Graveside Service with Military Honors will be July 9, 2025, at 11:30 AM in Central Cemetery, 74 Central Street, East Bridgewater, Massachusetts. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited.
