BOWDOIN- Harry Robert Hummel, Jr., known to those who loved him as Bobby, of Bowdoin, Maine passed peacefully on May 2, 2024.
Bobby was born on March 28, 1961, in Jacksonville, Florida. He was a graduate of Brunswick High School. Bobby was a talented diver, having practiced with the Bowdoin College Diving Team as a teenager, and frequently wowed spectators as he dove from the sixty-foot cliff at the quarry in Hallowell.
Bobby was an animal lover and spent a great deal of time as a youth at Simpson's Animal Park in Brunswick, where he took care of and befriended the animals, especially the horses. He loved to be outdoors and if you were lucky enough to hike with him, you learned how to be observant and find every flower and creature. Bobby's talents and interests were many, but his favorite thing by far was being a father to Tia and Kyle. They will miss him sorely and always.
Bobby will be missed by his loving family. He is survived by his two loving children, Tia L.M. Hummel and his son Kyle Hummel Bauer, his loving sister Cheryl and brother-in-law Michael, nephews Michael, Jr., and Jonathan, niece Nina, and is also survived by Paul, Dawn, Leland, Marissa, Lydia, Copper, and Phin as well as many friends and co-workers.
Bobby was preceded in death by his parents Nancy Elberta Heasley and Harry Robert Hummel, and his brother Jonathan Eric Hummel. Thea, having passed one day after Bobby, is caring for him now.
A celebration of Bobby's life is planned for May 19, at Cumberland County Glass, 51 Pond Road in Bowdoinham, Maine at 12:00 PM. Please come casual with stories to share.
