Obituary

Topsham- Hazel P. Parlin, age 83 of River Road, died Wednesday, January 1st at Mid Coast Hospital. She was born in Harrison on August 10, 1930 a daughter of Harry and Nettie Edson Kimball and attended Harrison schools. Hazel spent many years working in many shoe manufacturing factories in Lewiston, South Paris area, and Brunswick. She took pride her shoe manufacturing workmanship. On July 2, 1957 she married Sherm Parlin of Gardiner who was the love of her. They had four children. She and her husband enjoyed spending time at their camp on Pleasant Pond, especially singing songs by the campfire. As part of Sherm's job as a Prudential Agent, both she and Sherm travelled extensively and enjoyed their many trips within the country and beyond. Hazel took care of Sherm during his illness, owning and opening a cleaning business. Hazel loved to craft, crochet and to watch and feed the birds. She was a tremendous cat lover and enjoyed her pets over the years, especially her "DJ" and "Muffin." She took tremendous pride and enjoyed spending time with her children and grandchildren. Family meant the world to her. She also enjoyed going to China Rose with family and friends. Family and friends would love to call her "Purple Haze" and "Chicken Hawk Hazel." She is survived by her son Dan Parlin and his wife Linda of Topsham, step-son Ken Parlin and his wife Rachael of Bath, three daughters, Roberta Edson and her husband Dick of Casco, Debbie Flaig and her husband Dan of Topsham, and Laurie Ham and her companion Tom McCoy of Topsham, two brothers, her twin, William "Bill" Kimball of Freeport, with whom she had a special connection, and Harry Kimball Jr. of South Paris, three sisters Muriel Brine of Norway, Dorothy Saucier of Auburn, and Freda Nelson of West Palm Beach, FL, and several grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren. In addition to her husband, she was predeceased by two sisters Myrna "Babe" Benoit, who was her best friend, and Phyllis Saucier. Visiting hours will be held Tuesday, January 7th from 3-5PM at Stetson's Funeral Home, 12 Federal St., Brunswick, where a service will follow at 5PM with the Rev. Ron. McLaughlin officiating. Burial beside her husband in Rogers Cemetery, Topsham will take place in the spring. In lieu of flowers, donations in her memory may be made to the Coastal Humane Society, 190 Pleasant St., Brunswick, ME 04011.
