Irene Marie Elwell, 92, of Calais, formerly of Brunswick passed away peacefully on February 16 after a long battle with cancer. Irene was born December 13, 1933 in Brunswick, Maine the third of seven children born to Dominique and Helena (St. Pierre) Cote. Irene worked in several footwear factories in her life including Eastland Shoe, Maine Shoe, and lastly LLBean. Irene enjoyed the outdoors, fishing and snowmobiling in her younger years, walking and watching birds and deer in the park in her later days. She also loved spending time with family and talking to them by phone when they weren't near. Irene is survived by her daughter Linda Holbrook (Bennett) of Calais, granddaughters Helena Holbrook of Brunswick and Amber Holbrook (Brenden) of Deerfield, MA, great-grandsons Ian Wallace and Xavier Wright of Midvale, Utah, Colin Davidson of Brunswick, and great-granddaughter Mia Rumpf (Bendix) of Germany. She is also survived by her sister Constance Anderson (Wayne) of Topsham and brothers Ernest Cote of Chelsea and Arthur Cote (Dottie).
