Brunswick- Jerrold Lee "Jerry" Galleher of Brunswick Maine, a Veteran of the Korean War, well respected audiologist, volunteer conservationist, and a devoted father and husband died at home one on 1/18/2026 at the age of 92.
Jerry was Born 2/27/1933 in Fredericktown Ohio to Ethel Winbigler and Wayne Galleher, was raised in nearby Mount Vernon Ohio and graduated from Mount Vernon High School. He enlisted in the Air Force after high school. He served as a tail gunner in the Korean War. After his military service he attended Heidelberg College in Tiffin Ohio and earned his bachelor's degree. He then attended what is now Case Western Reserve university in Cleveland Ohio and earned a master's degree in Audiology.
He moved to Poughkeepsie NY in the early 1960's and became a well-respected audiologist at St. Francis Hospital (now Mid-Hudson Regional Hospital) for 34 years. It was amazing to watch his skills, especially testing the hearing of very young children where he could turn from this rather serious individual in a suit and a tie to that to an animated personality that could make the kids smile and giggle, and respond for testing.
Jerry was known for his dedication to his four children, his work effort, sense of humor and quick wit, intelligence, and ability to tell stories. These were among the qualities that caught the attention of his second wife Robin Longa Galleher and they were married March 8,1986.
After Jerry's retirement Robin accepted a job offer in Maine and they moved. He really didn't know much about Maine at the time but immediately fell in love with the Mid Coast area, particularly the community of people there who work to protect the Land. He became a member of the Brunswick Topsham Land Trust and served on their Board for many years.
He is survived by his wife of almost 40 years, 4 children and their significant others Cathy (Joe) Chris (Marla), Ian (Diane), and Jeremy (April) 6 grandchildren, his brother-in-law, his niece and nephew and their children. He was predeceased by his sister-in-law and his parents.
At his request there will not be a funeral. A celebration of life may be considered in the Spring. Arrangements and guidance are under the direction of Stetson's Funeral Home & Cremation Services, 12 Federal Street, Brunswick, ME.
