Josephine Atlass 88, passed away Sunday April 13 2014. Jo was born March 22, 1926 in New York City. She attended New York schools and graduated from Hunter College. She married Hadley Atlass in 1950 and raised two sons in New York. In 1971 they moved to Orr's Island Maine and purchased the Little Island Motel. Jo, first with her husband until his death in 1987, and later with the great help of local women and her lifelong friend Mary Manypenny, operated the motel for 40 years until her recent retirement. She loved the museums, theater, and the arts, but perhaps her favorite recent activity was dining at the local restaurants. Jo is predeceased by her husband Hadley and a son, Ronald. She is survived by a son, Richie and his wife Lorraine of Portland; her grandchildren Amy Higgins of Longmeadow, Mass and Chet and Chris Meehan of Portland; and three Great Grand Children. Services will be private at the family's request. In memory of Jo, please go out and enjoy a nice lunch.
