Brunswick-L. Thomas Bouthot age 81and a half years young died Friday June 24th at the Mid Coast Hospital. He was born in Fort Kent on December 28, 1929 the son of Josephel and Clarisse Landry Bouthot.
Tom attended Fort Kent and Brunswick schools moving to Brunswick at the age of twelve. He was a 1950 graduate of Brunswick High School.
Tom served in the Army during the Korean Conflict. After the conflict he worked at First National Store for a few years.
In 1956 Tom purchased the Model Market Store on Pleasant St. and then renamed it Uncle Tom's Market after receiving this name from all of the local children who visited his store. On September 17, 1960 he married Solange Trepanier and together they ran the store. Tom continued working at the store for his son Daniel up until the time of his death.
Being a landmark in Brunswick for decades Uncle Tom's Market was well known for its home cooked nuts and having the coldest beer in town. Tom could be seen working in his store with his white coat and apron and will be remembered for his gags and practical jokes.
Tom was a fourth degree member of the Knights of Columbus Sekenger Council and a member of St. John's the Baptist Church.
Surviving besides his wife of Brunswick is a son Daniel Bouthot and his wife Margaret also of Brunswick. A daughter Renee Bouthot Lewis and her husband Michael of Richmond. Three grandchildren Gabrielle and Celeste Bouthot and Joseph Lewis. Four sisters Theresa Lachance of Gardner, MA; Florence Bachand of Brunswick; Patricia Dagenais of Manchester, CT and Claudette Albert of North Haven, CT.
Tom was predeceased by four sisters and two brothers.
Memorial visiting hours will be held Thursday, June 30th from 10AM-12PM at Stetson's Funeral Home 12 Federal St. Brunswick. A funeral service will follow at 12 noon at the funeral home. Interment with military honors will follow at St. John's Cemetery in Brunswick. A reception luncheon will be held following the committal at the Knights of Columbus Hall in Brunswick.
