"A cheerful face maketh a feast"; a maxim exemplified by Linda Filley Laguerre of Coastal Estates II in Brunswick Maine, who passed too soon from this life early Friday the 18th of April 2014.
Born in Troy New York in May of 1944 to Family Court Judge Marcus L. and Dorothy M. Filley, Linda grew up in rural Rensselaer County and attended Emma Willard and St Agnes (now Doan Stewart) Schools. A natural athlete, Linda excelled at tennis, field hockey and gymnastics and was the leader of St. Agnes's gymnastic/cheer team. Linda possessed an exceptional gift for teaching and helping children and lent that ability to much volunteer work at Boston Floating Hospital while working toward a degree at Wheelock College in Boston.
She married R. Ted Laguerre, her husband of almost 50 years in 1964, becoming a graduate school spouse, Navy wife, interior designer and business owner, and, her finest accomplishment in her mind and by proven results...mother and grandmother. Linda and Ted and family lived on Seaborne Drive in Yarmouth for almost 37 years until 2012, where boating and cruising and neighbors were greatly enjoyed.
Throughout her life, Linda lent her skills to many teaching and coaching efforts and was a superb guiding leader and motivator, especially of the young. She was a scout leader, worked with special education students in Yarmouth Schools for a number of years, was a Ronald MacDonald House volunteer and designer /furnish-er for their most recent addition and served on the Chamber of Commerce in Yarmouth.
Her true professional passion was as an interior designer. She loved helping others upgrade and enhance their surrounds through her design firm, carefully named Pineapple Perfection Ltd., which she founded and operated for many years on Main Street in Yarmouth, Maine. She was an early licensed Maine Interior Designer, a member of ASID and a participant in MIDA (Maine Interior Design Association) where she served as an officer. More recently Linda's helping nature brought her to working as a Hospice volunteer and a home assistant for elders where here caring nature brought comfort to others.
Linda is with great fondness survived and missed by her husband, R. Ted Laguerre, her daughter, Danielle Newcomb, her son, Teddy Laguerre, her Aunt Gracie, Uncle Derrick and cousins Nancy Angle and Georgia McCracken, her sister, Leith Filley Colen,...and Linda's most joyful legacy, grandsons Jake, Keegan, Drew and Declan...her pride and joy.
The brevity of this notice belies the wonder of her presence in the lives of others, willing to help, willing to listen, willing to cheer and comfort. She lived a fraternal motto learned at Lehigh with husband Ted...."we enjoy life by the help and society of others" and by many such great actions our lives were made richer indeed by her presence.
A memorial service will be held at the First Parish Congregational Church at 116 Maine Street in Yarmouth on Thursday 1 May 2014 at 2:00 PM. Interment will be at Oakwood Cemetery in Troy, NY at a later date.
Linda's helping way would, in lieu of flowers, welcome a contribution to the Salvation Army in her memory (donate.salvationarmyusa.org)
