Obituary

Nicholas Peter Grant, known as Pete, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, June 14, at the age of 73. Son of the late Anne Phillips Grant and Nicholas J. Grant of Winchester MA, he is lovingly remembered by his wife Randy Pepper, his daughter Paige Fournier and her husband Lucas, and the three grandchildren he adored: Lila, Isaac, and Charlie; his sister Anne Duffy of Kingston MA; sister-in-law Lynn Grant Major and husband Jimmy of Fort Meyers FL; stepmother Susan Cronyn of Marshfield MA, brother Jon Grant and his wife Bethany, sister Kate Grant Glennon and her husband Joe, both of Scituate MA. He was predeceased by devoted aunts Doris and Agnes Phillips, and his brother Bill Grant. A graduate of Winchester High School, and a natural athlete, Pete became a skilled carpenter and builder, dedicated to his craft, valuing tradition and perfection, and able to create a solution to any problem. He and Randy championed Paige, from school and college athletic achievements to her Ph.D.; they never missed a soccer or lacrosse game, where Pete was welcome as an unofficial coach from the sidelines, with the passion and knowledge of a professional. Their home, together with the Fourniers', was lively with grandchildren, extended family, and their beloved border collies. Unapologetically irreverent, Pete always had a colorful story to tell, and will be missed by all who knew him. From Pete's daughter Paige: "A few things he taught me that I promise to carry forward: Skiing is meant to be done fast (and it's never too cold to get a good day in); the blues should be listened to loud; whiskey sours should always be poured as a double; always tip your waiter (and your plumber, your grandkid, whoever helps ya out); never tailgate; hard work always pays off in the end; and stick up for the underdogs (and if words don't work, a strong and straight right jab will do the trick). Rest easy - we love you, Pops."
