Brunswick - Roger Belanger, 67 of Kyle Street died peacefully at his home on August 18th after fighting a courageous battle with cancer. He was born in Brunswick, Maine on May 4, 1943 the son of Napoleon R. Belanger and Lucille M. Belanger. He attended St. John's Catholic School in Brunswick and graduated from Brunswick High School in 1961. Roger loved to play basketball and was on the Brunswick High Varsity Basketball Team. Roger served in the 133D Armor Group of the Maine National Guard. On February 21, 1976 he married his wife of 34 years, Sharon Eastman. He retired in 2005 from BIW after working 42 years as a machinist. Roger was a member of the Brunswick Lodge Elks B.P.O.E. 2043 for 38 years. He enjoyed cooking with his Elks Lodge friends for lodge functions. Roger was also a member of the Brunswick Knights of Columbus. Roger loved playing golf, many cars of different models and NASCAR racing. He was an avid New York Giants football fan. Roger was fun loving and always the life of any party.
Roger is predeceased by his father and mother. He is also predeceased by his uncle Bill and his aunts affectionately known as the "Dollies".
Surviving is Roger's wife Sharon Belanger of Brunswick, ME. A son Daryl Belanger of Saratoga, NY. His sister Joan Gerrish (former Joan Belanger) and her husband Ret. Col. Roger Gerrish of Brunswick, ME/Austin, TX. Also surviving is a niece Tracy Gerrish and her partner Sandra O'Neal of Kyle, Texas and nephew Wayne Gerrish and his wife Cindy of Springfield, VA. and two great-nieces and one great-nephew. Roger was dearly loved by his wife Sharon's large family.
Visiting hours will be held Sunday, August 22nd from 2-4PM and 6-8PM at Stetson's Funeral Home 12 Federal Street, Brunswick. A funeral service will be held Monday, August 23rd at 11 AM at the funeral home with Deacon Stephen Harnois officiating.
