Obituary

William Dennis Giroux, lovingly known to family and friends as Bill, passed away suddenly on October 2, 2026 at 66 years old.

Bill was born on April 14, 1960, in Brunswick, Maine. He graduated from Brunswick High School and later attended the University of Maine at Machias. After holding several jobs, he began a career in local government, serving as Town Manager of Bowdoinham, City Manager of Bath, and ultimately Town Manager of Standish, where he concluded his fulfilling career. Bill took great pride in making positive changes in the communities he served and especially valued the supportive staff and colleagues he worked alongside.

But Bill was certainly not all work and no play. An avid traveler, he took multiple trips each year, exploring places such as Peru, France, and Ireland, more than a dozen U.S. national parks, and countless other destinations. He also loved sports, and music. He enjoyed traveling to different stadiums and seeing live bluegrass music. He kept an ever-growing bucket list of places and things he wanted to see, and his children and Patti look forward to carrying on his adventurous spirit and checking off more destinations in his honor.

Bill had always dreamed of a camp where his family could fish, swim, gather around a campfire, and enjoy time together. In 2020, he made that dream a reality by purchasing a camp in Grand Lake Stream, Maine. He loved sharing it with family and friends, but it was also his happy place, where he found peace gazing upon the sunsets, listening to the loons, and watching the waves crash against the rocks.

Above all, nothing meant more to Bill than his two children, Mike and Aly. They were his greatest source of pride and his most treasured gifts. The three shared a truly special bond, finding joy in one another’s company, confiding in one another, and sharing countless laughs. Whether he was cheering his kids on at sporting events, taking them on hunting/ fishing trips up north, or offering words of wisdom, he genuinely embraced every part of being a father.

Bill will be deeply missed and fondly remembered by his family and friends. In a note he left for his children, he wrote:

“Hey, seriously, what a sweet run! And not to worry cause while my body will start rotting quicker now, the rest of me will never die.”

Those words capture something special about Bill: his perspective on life, his sense of humor, and the lasting legacy he leaves behind.

Bill is survived by his children, Michael Giroux (Tori) and Alyssa Giroux (Kyle); his granddaughter, Adaline Giroux; his longtime partner and friend, Patricia Sigurdson; and Patricia’s children, Danny Sigurdson (Jasmine) and Meghan Sigurdson.

He is also survived by his siblings, Claire Redden (John), Bob Giroux (Jan), Louise Rowe (James), John Giroux (Faith), Joe Menard (Tracy), Matt Menard (Katie), Diane Burris, Jeanne Ackor (Adam), Jim Menard (Angie), and Lisa Pickford (John), as well as many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Geraldine Menard; his father, Wilfrid Giroux Jr.; and his stepfather, David Menard.

A Celebration of Life will be held on Sunday, November 15, 2026, from 1:00 to 3:00 p.m. at Bath Golf Course / Long Reach Kitchen and Catering.

Bring your best Bill stories, and let’s remember him with a smile and a laugh, just as he would have wanted.
